Living in a walnut

What is it?

According to the professor who leads the project, Lucas Brown, nowadays students are not so enamored of life in the suburbs with high mortgage. The mini house will appeal to new generation. City without cars?

What is it?

Whether it will ever happen is to be seen, but the idea is strong: a car-free town of 80,000 inhabitants. Wich in comparison is similar to Lelystad. The city is 1.3 square kilometers. From the edge to the city it is just a 10 minute walk. The city is gonna be built near Chengdu, situated in China. The city of Chengdu is connected by public transport quality. The planned city will obviously contain a lot of high-rise buildings, but the architects think that this city will be a lot greener thanks to this: the city will consume 48% less energy, 58% less water, 89% less waste and 60% less CO2 than comparable projects.

Why is it cool?

This project is cool because it will provide all basic services to its residents through a sustainable infrastructure that supports education, commerce, culture and an improved quality of life because people will get healthier because there is less CO2. I also think people will appreciate more the little things because they have more time to think and look around because they have to walk to their destination, it might even give them some peace in mind. So it enhances the physical and emotional well-being. It mainly demonstrates how China can reduce its ecological footprint while creating economic conditions that are affordable for the majority of citizens and address contemporary social concerns.

Why has it future growth potential?

The car-free city has future growth potential because nowadays a lot of people are trying to live more eco friendly because of the global warming process. This is an excellent initiative to enhance the environment and to reduce its ecological footprint which is quite big due the large industry of China. So maybe in the future Chinese people can walk outside without surgical masks…
