WHAT DRUGS DOES

What is it?

The London-based photographer Roman Sakovich made this photo series called ‘Half’. Roman made this project while studying at Arts University College Bournemouth. He photographed his models half in ‘normal’ state, while he used other clothing and makeup for the other half to show how they would look after some time of drug use. Both extremes give a nice yet shocking contrast.

Why is it cool?

I think this photo series is pretty cool. We al know that using drugs isn’t healthy. It also doesn’t improve your looks, the pictures are the evidence. Besides that it’s just a very cool exhibition, it is also very instructive. Nowadays, a lot of value is placed on how one looks. Knowing that drugs will disadvantage your appearance, the step of using it will be larger. I hope it will make people more aware of the influence of drugs so they won’t use it.

Why has it future growth potential?

Nowadays, children at a young age are made aware that drugs are bad for health as well as financial and appearance. I think the message will be made clearer with the visual shocking images and therefore more people will use it in this way to get attention for important messages.

WOMAN BEING PHOTOSHOPPED CURVIER

Image

What is it?

It is no longer a novelty that fashion houses prefer to use skinny models. Photo models are being photoshopped so they look thinner than they are. In the media and among the society there’s a constant fuss about the unhealthy image of the models and other thin celebrities. This is exactly the reason why now there has occurred a counter movement. Instead of making models thinner, now, both celebrities and models are photoshopped to make them look curvier. A former writer of Cosmopolitan confirms this, he wrote a revealing story about the Photoshop habits that hides extreme thinness. More and more workers from magazines such as Healthy, Self and British Vogue have indulged in some cases to resemble the models to be fuller: “I spent the first ten years of my career making girls look thinner – and the burden in making them look larger” is a statement by an employee at one of the magazines.

Image

Why is it cool?

My feeling on this issue is a little doubtful. On one side a fuller model looks much healthier, also the pursuit of (young) girls to be as thin as the girls on advertisement campaigns will decrease. But on the other hand, again this is not a fair picture of how the person really looks like. The danger exists that if the thin girls are retouched, reality such as eating disorders will not be seen. So personally i think they should use girls in campaigns who are normal so they don’t need any kind of photoshop, i think that would be fair!

Image

Why has it future growth potential?

I think that using fuller models will increase, whether it’s with photoshop or not. Nowadays everywhere on social media you see pictures of women who are slightly fuller and they are proud of it. Usually there’s a text above these pictures which indicate that normal fuller bodies are more beautiful than extreme starved bodies. You also see brands like dove anticipate on this. I think many people are tired to chase unrealistic beauty ideals and are looking for natural and healthy ideals.

MIXED FEELINGS ABOUT FITNESS AD

Image

What is it?

It is old news that the media today consciously and unconsciously influence us largely. Often you are influenced especially in terms of appearance with the emphasis on the body. Most woman want to be thin, tall, and a little muscular. Russian gym ‘NRG Zone Fitness Centre’ makes good use of this. NRG Zone Fitness Centre decided to launch a new and (in their eyes) motivational ad campaign where you see a fuller woman sitting in front of the mirror in a fitness machine or stand while a slimmer version of herself is looking in the mirror. The gym probably used is as motivation to step into the gym  but there’s also a chance it might work demotivating because it might be going too far.

Image

Why is it cool?

Whether these fitness ad is cool, well… that’s arguable. For one it works motivating because women strive for the image they see in the mirror. On the other hand, this property could also work demotivating  because you only get good results after a long time of working out, so if it takes to long you might quit because that little voice in your head is saying that you will never have that body in a million years. Personally I think this ad is not so cool as this unrealistic image of the so-called” perfect” body agrees with the unrealistic thin images that media indoctrinates us with. I think it’s more important to exercise for your health than to be bone thin.

Why has it future growth potential?

Image

It might has future growth potential because one part of the women will get motivated by this campaign. While they are working out they are thinking in the back of their minds of the shaped up body’s they will get by working out. However, it can also go the other way. This advertising campaign will stop growing because a large part of women who are working out will get demotivated by these images that you see on the ad.

Image

What is it?

No we are not talking about couvade, the phenomenon that men with pregnant women start showing pregnancy symptoms themselves. We are talking about actually physically feel the baby move. Until now, father’s to be had to lay their hand on their pregnant wife’s belly to feel their baby. Those times are over. Thanks to two special belly bands developed by Huggies – one for the mother to capture the movements of her baby and the father who will capture realtime movements – fathers can now literally feel pregnant. The result: Men crying!

Image

Why is it cool?

Do i really need to explain? Ok well.. thanks to the belly bands created by huggies, now both men and women can  enjoy every kick and move their little baby makes. Mom and dad come closer to each other and to the baby as they create a intimate bond with the baby in a very early stage.

Image

Why has it future growth potential?

Nowadays people want more and more experience and knowledge, we attach great value to intimacy and relationships between people we love. And thats exactly what Huggies is doing with this product.

HAIR OR HAIRLESS?

What is it?

In july of 2013 Katriina Haikala and Vilma Metteri from the Finnish fashion brand called Nutty Tarts launched an underwear collection so called ”hairy underwear collection”. Conclusion: hair is cool!

ImageImage

Now fashion label American Apparel  decided to take pubic hair to a whole other level. This week American Apparel known for it’s controversial campaigns attracted a lot of attention with the exhibition of their new Valentine collection. The collection was not exhibited by normal window mannequins, but on mannequins with a bunch of hair on the intimate part of the female body.

Image

Why is it cool?

Today in fashion images we see both woman and men completely shaved from head to toe. That’s fine by me, but not for everyone. Both Nutty Tarts and American Apparel think that natural is best and that we have to stop feeling ourselves obligated to shave everything away because media are telling us to. For American Apparel there was another reason, attention! Shoppers are imedialety grabbing their smartphones and take pictures of the, to them, shocking image of the mannequins. Now these pictures are scattered across the web and everyone is giving their opinion whether it’s positive or negative. Good job American Appel you’re famous!

Image

Why has it future growth potential?

Hmm.. tough question for me to answer because i think it’s better if women and men shave but that’s my personal opinion. But if i put myself in the position of proponents it think that the message is: Just be your beautiful naturel self! Both in the issue about hair as for example plastic surgery, to much make-up or starving yourself to be like al the models in the magazines and that’s the part i find very cool! In an age of Photoshoped pictures and other sophisticated human onrealtistic images, I think people will appreciate this kind of controversial statements so it will grow further.
